Jewelry Display

I have been wanting to find a better solution to organize all of my jewelry.  My previous solution consisted of a tattered shoe box under my bed, a random earring tree, and a few nails in my wall for necklaces, with the rest scattered around my room.  I (finally) decided to do something about it.  I wanted to have something that was really cute and unique and that kept all of my jewelry in one place.  I have a TON of earrings (thank you Forever21 for your $1.50 selections) and lots of long necklaces so I needed something that would accommodate both.  Here is what I did…

Printer’s Drawer:

I got the idea for this from etsy but didn’t want to pay the $100+ they wanted to charge.  I found this great printer’s drawer at an antique mall in Stuarts Draft, VA.  I bargained with the lady and got it for $30.  (It was tagged at a whopping $50).  It has lots of little compartments and is perfect for my huge collection of earrings.  I spray-painted it grey to give it a vintage feel and then took a trip to Home Depot (my favorite place these days) to get screw eyes to use as the hooks for the earrings.

I also found these furniture nails that were PERFECT for the vintage look I was going for.  The best part?  They only cost $1!

If you are thinking of doing this yourself let me give you one piece of advice: Make sure you have a great pair of pliers.  You need a lot of pressure and a tight grip to get the screw eye into the wood.  Since the compartments are so small its hard to get your fingers in there, which is where the pliers come in handy!

Set of drawers:

I found this at a little consignment shop less than a mile from where I live.  I have probably driven by it thousands of times and never paid it any attention.  I decided to stop in and found this perfect little set of drawers.  I fell in love with the vintage finish and the fact that I didn’t need to change anything about it!

Table:

Now that I had the first two pieces, I needed a table to set it all on.  I went to Garden Ridge and found this one on the clearance aisle.  It was originally white but I wanted it to really pop so I spray-painted it sunny yellow.

Finished product:

I finished the display off with 2 little birch branches from Urban Outfitters.  They are the perfect way to display all of my chunky necklaces!  I’m so happy with the way it turned out!!!

Apartment. Part 1: My Room.

Out of the past 7 years I have only had my own place for 6 months.  Since that was such a quick time, I didn’t even have a chance to make it my ‘own’ before it was time to move out.  Now that I do have my own apartment and space, I’ve had a great time decorating it.  I’m lucky enough to have found a place that already had beautiful finishes, lighting, appliances, and fixtures, which made decorating it all that much more fun!

For my room, since I’m not sharing it with anyone right now (yes!!), I knew I wanted it to have a bright, girly feel with vintage touches.  I still need a couple things, but I’m so happy with how it turned out!
