Hair Diaries, Part 1.

July 14, 2011 § 2 Comments

I’ve had a lot of people asking me about my hair lately.  I do not understand why, as I do not feel I was blessed with the beautiful, lush hair I’ve always dreamed about.  Regardless, I wanted to share a few hair secrets that work for me…

-I only wash my hair every other day, and lately I have been going as many as 3-4 days, depending on if I’ve been to the gym or whatever.  Dirty hair is the best for styling, whether it be braiding, curls, pinning it up, etc.

-When I do wash my hair:

I usually try to wash it at night.  I let it towel dry for a few minutes and then I brush it out (this is the only time I ever brush my hair).  I leave a few tangles in it (my hair tangles like c-r-a-z-y) as I feel that adds a little volume 🙂  After that I rub a dime-sized amount of Moroccanoil Oil Treatment all over my hair.  Then I twist it into a low bun while its wet and secure it with a rubber band.  I leave it like this until bed time, and then I let it out to sleep.   When I wake up, I have natural waves in my hair.  I curl it into spiral curls using this curling iron and finish with a mist of the Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray.  I usually hope to achieve the ‘Kate Hudson’ tousled, yet perfect beautiful beach waves look (see below) but fall far short.  Sigh…

Party Make-up.

June 20, 2011 § 2 Comments

I do not consider myself talented when it comes to make-up.  I wear the same tinted moisturizer, eyeshadow, black eyeliner and mascara combo almost every day, with little to no variation.  My birthday/celebration of summer *pink* party was this past Saturday.  I knew I wanted a special look to celebrate the last year of my 20s.  I had the very talented Herbert at Nordstrom do my make-up and he did an AMAZING job.  He used mostly Bobbi Brown products, along with his favorite mascara by Dior (but only on the top lashes, which I wasn’t aware of).  Here are some of the products he used, as well as a picture of the finished product.  I think my favorite part about the look was the bright pink lips.  I never wear lipstick and when I do I feel like such a grown-up!!

1. Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer & Corrector, $32.

2. Bobbi Brown Blush in Peony, $24.

3. Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in Golden Nectar, $38.

4. Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color in Cosmic Raspberry, $22.

5. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Lip Gloss, $22.

6. Dior ‘Iconic’ Mascara, $28.

7. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, $21.

Moroccanoil Hair Products

My hair stylist uses Moroccanoil products on me and I love them.  They smell AMAZING (seriously!!!) and actually work.  I use only the oil treatment on my hair right now.  I don’t use many products on my hair at home which is probably why 6 out of 7 days I end up with a bad hair day.  I am dying to try these other products, especially the glimmer shine spray!!

1. Moroccanoil Light Treatment, $41.

2.  Glimmer Shine Spray, $26.

3. Hydrating Styling Cream, $32.

4. Luminous Hair Spray, $21.

Spring Hairstyles

Runway hair is often way too crazy for real life.  This Spring though, there were actually a fair amount of runway hairstyles that are inspiring me right now to experiment with my hair.  Here are my favorites (also a huge fan of the nude and coral lips!):

Spring Make-up

Springtime always makes me think of fresh, bright colors.  I usually don’t mix up my make-up routine but this Spring I want to try neutral eyeshadow paired with light pink blush and a coral lip.  Here are a few items I want to add to my beauty bag:

1. MAC Cremeblend Blush in Something Special, $19.50.

2. Chanel Le Vernis in Orange Fizz, $25.

3. Essie Polish in California Coral, $8.

4. Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in Coral, $6.25.

5. Jemma Kidd Eyeshadow Duo, $18.

Liquid Liner.

I am no expert in applying eyeliner.  The first time I tried to use liquid liner I ended up looking like a linebacker (black under my eyes, not even sure how that happened???).  But, after a little research and some practice, I finally figured it out!  This is my favorite because of the felt tip, which makes getting a perfectly straight line so much easier.  I definitely suggest adding this to your beauty bag!
