I recently got a new bookshelf (and put it together myself, woo hoo!) and was excited to finally get to use my really cute, modern lamp I had gotten months ago when I moved into my place. I loved the way it looked except for the lampshade. I searched around online for a really cute, affordable one and couldn’t find any I liked. Then it dawned on me, I could take this white lampshade and make it into what I had been searching for! I already had the painter’s tape, so for a measly $3 at Michael’s, I was able to transform this in about an hour. Here is what I did:
Start out with a plain, white lampshade (mine is from Target):
Tape your lampshade in your desired pattern. This is the most tricky part, however it doesn’t have to be perfect to look good. You won’t be able to see small imperfections unless you are up close.
Using acryclic gold metallic paint and a stencil brush, paint the entire shade, making sure the tape is firmly pressed down onto the fabric. If it isn’t, the paint can drip down a bit and mess up your pattern.
Gently peel the painter’s tape off the shade while it’s drying so the tape doesn’t stick to the paint and peel it off once it’s dry.
Once dry, you have an adorable finished product to display!
